Clinical Applications
The Biophotonics Group develops imaging tools that address un-met clinical needs in cancer detection and disease management.
Existing collaborations with practicing clinicians from several specialties – including pulmonology, gastroenterology, pathology, gynecology – enables our group to quickly develop tools that are needed to solve exiting clinical problems.
While the ultimate goal of optical imaging is to replace incisional biopsy, the more practical near terms applications usually involve developing tools to detect or localize lesions (“early detection”), guide the selection of biopsy sites (“biopsy guidance”) or guide the selection of lesion boundaries and margins (“margin delineation”).
